Get understanding
“And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the
Scriptures” Luke 24:45.
If Jesus is your
teacher, how could you not understand? I believe no Scripture is beyond our
understanding if we want to know it. A student is supposed to be able to ask
the teacher questions. If Jesus is your teacher, ask Him questions. We know His
disciples asked many questions. I can’t think of any instances where Jesus
didn’t answer, even if His responses weren’t what they wanted to hear. God gave
us the written Bible to get to know Him better. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in your
getting, get understanding” (Proverbs 4: 7). . We can and are in God’s
classroom everyday.
If the lessons are
difficult to learn, I believe we can ask God why. When things are hard to see
reason in, I believe we can go to God with questions. Just as the disciples, we
might not expect the answers He gives. When in difficult circumstances we might
cry out for help out of the trouble but God may be teaching us a lesson through
the difficulty. Instead of relieving the stress, He may help us endure through
it. We should accept that answer as well as the rescues.
I discovered this while searching for answers as my home church went through 18 months of pressure. God didn't answer my questions so much as showed me that I needed to walk in faith and not by sight.
Faith is truly a foundation.
